After a short but intense tease campaign Ford
has finally ripper the covers of its factory-built performance truck, the Ranger Raptor. Built on the same platform as the dual-cab
Ranger, the Raptor’s strengthened chassis, off-road racing suspension and big four-wheel
disc brakes give it a focus unlike any dual-cab in its class. While under the bonnet, a new 2.0-litre four-cylinder
bi-turbo-diesel engine and 10-speed automatic transmission promise smooth, responsive power The Aussie-developed Ranger Raptor shares
many of the styling cues seen on Ford’s F-150 Raptor. The Ranger Raptor is taller and wider than
a standard dual-cab Ranger, and boasts additional ground clearance, a wider track and long-travel
suspension aimed designed with off-road endurance racing in mind. There’s even a special Baja mode built-in
to the Terrain Management System tuned specifically for high-speed, off-road performance. Inside the Ranger Raptor is dressed with durable
materials and race-inspired large-bolster seats. There’s an aggressive red cluster fascia,
model-specific steering wheel and new magnesium paddle shifters controlling the 10-speed automatic-only
transmission. Ford said it hasn’t decided on a price tag
for the Ranger Raptor just yet. But our guess is the sporty truck will nudge
the $80,000 mark when it goes on sale in Australia in the second-half of 2018.
