Ford’s lineup of crossovers and SUV’s offer
spacious interiors, efficient performance, and innovative technology. The 2017 Ford
Escape and 2017 Ford Edge are two models whose attractive designs and athletic performance
really captivate drivers. We at Richmond Ford West want to give you
a fair comparison of two of our best-selling SUV’s, the Escape and Edge. We will explore
their key similarities and differences, including interior dimensions, gas mileage, and more. The Escape and Edge are both five-passenger
crossover SUV’s with sizeable cargo areas and plenty of room to stretch. Though they
boast similar designs inside and out, the Escape is a bit more compact than the Edge.
The Edge offers 15.2 more cubic feet of passenger volume than the Escape for a total of 113.9
cubic feet. The Ford Escape, by comparison, only provides 98.7 cubic feet of passenger
volume. The Escape provides 34 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row, which
folds down along a 60/40 split to reveal up to 68 cubic feet of storage room. The Edge
gets 39.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row and up to 73.4 cubic feet of
storage when its seats are folded flat. The Edge offers more cargo space, but front passengers
get half an inch more legroom in the Escape for a total of 43.1 inches. The Escape’s second-row
passengers only get 37.3 inches of legroom, which is 3.3 inches less than the Edge’s rear
seat.
The Escape and Edge both have three engines in their lineups. Due to its larger size and
mass to move, the 2017 Edge delivers more horsepower than the Escape. Nevertheless,
each produce similar fuel economy ratings. Consistent with EPA estimates, the Escape
delivers up to 23 city/30 highway MPG while the Edge delivers up to 21 city/30 highway
MPG. As far as for horsepower, the Escape’s base
4-cylinder engine delivers 168 horsepower. Comparatively, the Edge’s base engine makes
245 horsepower, which is equivalent to the Escape’s most potent engine, a 2.0L twin-scroll
EcoBoost 4-cylinder because it essentially is the same engine. The most powerful engine
in the Edge is the 2.7L Ecoboost V6 which produces a hefty 315 horsepower and 350 lb-ft.
of torque.

No matter which vehicle you prefer, both the
Ford Escape and Ford Edge are well-rounded SUV’s with plenty of cargo, passenger space,
fuel efficiency, and power. The only way to know which one is best for your driving needs
and routine is to get behind the wheel yourself.  If you’re considering a new Edge or Escape
we invite you to schedule duel test drive at Richmond Ford West where we are Driven
by You! .
